As Disney ploughs ahead with its plans to turn its animated back catalogue into live-action (or CG variant) movies, it is diving into troublesome waters with a new take on Peter Pan, Peter Pan And Wendy, which has a slew of less-than-successful adaptations lurking within its depths. Still, with Pete's Dragon director David Lowery at the helm, hopes are higher here. And we now know that comedian Jim Gaffigan will play Mr. Smee.
Gaffigan, whose film CV includes such titles as Going The Distance, 17 Again, 13 Going On 30 and Super Troopers 2, joins a cast that already also includes Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily, while Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson play the title characters. Smee is famously Captain Hook's (Jude Law) loyal first mate, but due to his personality, he doesn’t always offer much help.
The exact story for Lowery's version – which he co-wrote with regular collaborator Toby Halbrooks – is not yet known beyond the usual elements, and the film has yet to lock down a release date. We do know it'll debut on Disney+.
