British Peter Howitt - the man behind Johnny English – is turning his next film into something of a DIY experience. Or at least a fund-it-yourself job.

He’s gathered private investors to put up the money for the “hard” costs – location fees, food etc – and is tapping other companies and individuals (including the film’s crew) for donations. Those who chip in will get a share of the sales fees.

The film in question is Dangerous Parking, adapted from the late Stuart Browne’s first and only novel. It follows a former alcoholic filmmaker who discovers he has cancer, leading to a re-evaluation of his crazy life. Howitt is taking the lead, alongside Saffron Burrows, Sean Pertwee, Alice Evans, Tom Conti and Dervla Kirwan.
