We're not sure that, at the beginning of last year, we'd have predicted Peter Farrelly as a director to end up possessing an Oscar, but thanks to Green Book, here we are. Farrelly has now lined up a new film, agreeing to co-write and direct The Greatest Beer Run Ever.

Though the title sounds more in keeping with his Dumb & Dumber past, Beer Run will actually have a slightly more sombre undertone to go with its semi-comic feel. It's adapting Joanna Molloy and John "Chickie" Donohue's book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A True Story Of Friendship Stronger Than War. The film – which is only using the Beer Run reference as a working title for now – will follow the true story of Donohue's mission to find his childhood friends in the army and have some beers with them. The twist? It's 1967 and they're serving in Vietnam.

Skydance is providing the backing for this one, which Farrelly will adapt alongside Green Book's Brian Currie, plus Pete Jones. It certainly feels as though he's looking to continue the run of based-on-truth tales he started with Green Book.
