The new-look Pete’s Dragon is a furry green critter with a handy cloaking device that it enables to go reverse Smaug (or full Predator) when danger calls. In the spirit of all good wyrms, he can also breathe flames too, as the movie’s uplifting new trailer demonstrates. Take a look below.
Alongside the obvious CG bells and whistles, this Disney reimagining offers a slug of indie sensibility courtesy of Ain't Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery. Its Pacific Northwest setting is full of forests and glades the locals (chiefly Robert Redford’s playful wood carver) have embroidered with wistful folklore. It provides a believably remote wilderness to hide the giant Elliott and his human pal Pete (Oakes Fegley) as they steer clear of humankind.
Of course, there’s a spanner in the works. Profit-hungry lumberjack Karl Urban will stop at nothing to chop down Elliott’s habitat – apart from on Wednesdays, when he goes shopping – and soon discovers the secret concealed in those forests. Can kind-hearted forester Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) save the day?
The film also features Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence and Isiah Whitlock Jr., and will stomp into UK cinemas on August 12. The motion poster is right here{
