All across the land (well, the Hollywoodland, at least), studio PR departments have been rubbing their hands together in glee at the thought of announcing all their horror-tinged projects and developments on a day when spookiness is on our minds and in our hearts. The latest news looking to take advantage of the date? Word that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is in talks to handle the Pet Sematary remake.
Like a desperate father hoping to bring first his pet, then his son and his wife, back from the dead, Paramount has been trying to reawaken the remake of the 1989 adaptation of Stephen King’s chiller for a while now. The studio first began the re-imagining ritual in February 2011 with Matthew Greenberg writing the new script. Then, in August of that year, Alexandre Aja considered directing it.
Now here comes Fresnadillo, a man used to scaring people after 28 Weeks Later and Intruders. It’s not the first time he’s been attached to a remake: Fresnadillo has flirted with both the new attempts at Highlander and The Crow. If he signs for this one, he’ll work from the script polished by Greenberg and David Kajganich.
