You may know that the Empire Podcast team – and our own Phil de Semlyen in particular – like to keep you up to date with all the various happenings on Danny Boyle’s film about former Apple boss Steve Jobs. Well, Phil will be doing his warm-up exercises (there might be dancing to the soundtrack from Béla Tarr’s Damnation involved) to report that Perla Haney-Jardine has won the role of Jobs’ daughter, Lisa{ =nofollow}.

Michael Fassbender is set as the man himself for an Aaron Sorkin-scripted film that takes a look at three big moments from Jobs’ career: product launches for the likes of the iPod and more. But there is also an emotional backing to the film, which draws from Walter Isaacson’s biography and extensive interviews with people from Jobs’ life, including Lisa, who has a chequered history with her father. He initially denied his parental connection before admitting it when she was a teenager. While she didn’t talk to Isaacson, she did sit down with Sorkin, who has since declared her “the heroine of the film.”

Haney-Jardine joins a cast that is in various stages of hiring the likes of Seth Rogen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Kate Winslet and Jeff Daniels. She’s been seen in Untraceable,** Kill Bill Vol. 2** and, possibly most recognisably despite the small role, as the daughter of Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
