Last we heard, the sequel to Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief was tentatively underway but had nobody yet attached (bar the already contracted leads). Now it is forging ahead at full speed: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea Of Monsters** has a director in Thor Freudenthal{
The trio will be playing the Fates, known as the Moirai in Greek mythology, and responsible for birth, lifespan, and death: Clotho spins the thread of life, Lachesis allots how long it is, and Atropos cuts it with her terrible shears.
Which actress is playing which fate isn't clear yet (if they're even being especially differentiated). Mary Birdsong previously had small roles in The Descendents and Rob Zombie's Halloween II; Yvette Nicole Brown is best known for playing Shirley Bennett in NBC's Community; and Missi Pyle is most recognisable for her comedy roles (Galaxy Quest, Dodgeball, Along Came Polly), and was also in something called The Artist, which you may just about have heard of. Thor Freudenthal previously directed Hotel For Dogs and the first Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.
Sea Of Monsters, logically based on the second of Rick Riordan's series of Percy Jackson novels, has been adapted this time by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Agent Cody Banks, 1408), and sees Percy (Logan Lerman) and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) on an Argonautical quest to find the Golden Fleece and rescue Grover (Brandon T. Jackson).
The film already has a release date of March 26 next year, and starts shooting in April.
