Iranian director Asghar Farhadi has seen big success with previous films such as A Separation and The Salesman, both of which won Foreign Language Oscars. His latest, Everybody Knows, is more of a thriller than an awards-bait drama, but it still boasts Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem as the leads. The first trailer for the film – Spanish, with subtitles and also known as Todos lo saben – is now online.
The real-life couple stars in the story of Laura (Cruz) on her travels from Argentina to her small home town in Spain or her sister’s wedding, bringing her two children along, meeting up with old flame Paco (Bardem). Amid the joyful reunion and festivities, the eldest daughter is abducted. In the tense days that follow, various family and community tensions surface and deeply hidden secrets are revealed.
Everybody Knows also features Ricardo Darín, Bárbara Lennie, Inma Cuesta, Elvira Mínguez, Eduard Fernández, and Ramón Barea in the cast, and it'll be in US cinemas on 8 February next year, before heading to the UK on 8 March.
