Bouncing back from the uneven I’m So Excited, Spanish wizard Pedro Almodóvar is back with a much more accomplished effort in emotional drama-cum-thriller Julieta. The film has a new TV spot to share below.

Julieta spans 30 years in the life of its title character, a teacher who has a chance encounter with a handsome fisherman on a train but whose life with him – and daughter – are thrown into turmoil a few years later. The girl, now 18, disappears, seemingly lost to her mother forever and with few clues as to her whereabouts.

Emma Suárez plays the 55-year-old Julieta and Adriana Ugarte is the younger version. A film about the passage of time and the wounds it can leave, it’s a return to form for Almodóvar. It’s also a callback to his own earlier films, All About My Mother in particular.

Julieta premieres at Somerset House on August 10, before getting a UK-wide release on August 26.
