While the movie world gets warmed up for the landing of Michael Bay’s dollar-intensive WWII pic Pearl Harbor, plans for a suitably explosive premiere are already underway. The $130 million picture will be conjuring up the desired ambience for the screening by making its debut in an outdoor theatre at Pearl Harbour itself, reports Variety. Pending authorisation from the Department of Defence, the premiere will go ahead in May at Pearl Harbour’s Ford Island and will bring home the scale of the incident that finally dragged the US into the war by placing the audience a stone’s throw from where the Japanese bombs actually fell. With a number of naval officers planned to attend the screening in honour of those who lost their lives, Rear Admiral John Costas, acting Pacific Fleet deputy commander, will also be issuing an invitation to former president George Bush. A navy pilot during the war, Bush was shot down by the Japanese and rescued by a US submarine. Set to be THE film of the summer, the Bruckheimer-produced epic has been heralded as a kind of Titanic with planes. The film centres on a love triangle between Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale set against the backdrop of the infamous bombing.
