When you think of a grandmother, you normally picture a kindly figure that gives sweets to children and dispenses stories about times past. You don’t normally think of a jewel thief.
But 75-year-old Doris Payne was exactly that for more than five years, half-inching gems, rings and other trinkets from stores around the world. She’s currently languishing in the lock-up after being caught swiping an $8,000 ring from a Nieman Marcus store in California.
Now Justin Berfield – whose day job was playing Reese on Malcolm In The Middle, is producing Payne’s story with writer Eunetta Boone. "We knew that her life story is better than most of the fictional stories manufactured in Hollywood," Berfield told Variety.
