If a girl can put up with Simon Cowell for months on end as a judge on American Idol, she can probably stand any trial, no matter how awful. At least, that’s what we’re guessing, with the news that Paula Abdul has signed on to appear in and executive produce Bratz: The Movie, the big screen outing for the inexplicably popular big-headed dolls.
The live-action film follows the adventures of four teenage girls from different social backgrounds, who are separated by the different cliques at their school, only to realise that they can, like, totally be themselves by becoming “Bratz” and banding together. Hang on, wouldn’t that make them a new clique, rendering the whole exercise in being yourself, following your dreams and trying to assert your individuality totally pointless? Well, apart from the musical numbers obviously.
Abdul will take some as-yet unspecified role in the film, but will also be executive producing, and consulting on casting, music, fashion and dancing. We suppose that her American Idol experience will help with the music bit, and her former career as an LA Lakers cheerleader and choreographer certainly qualifies her on the dance front, while you can check out her fashion here, or here. But casting presents more of a problem – where on Earth is she going to find anyone with heads as gargantuan as the real Bratz?
