While news just broke that Doug Liman is officially signed on to direct Warners’ Sherlock Holmes-style take on The Three Musketeers, Paul WS Anderson has answered back by announcing a wealth of casting for his 3D version of the story, with Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen and Matthew Macfadyen all jumping aboard.

So who’s who? Let’s start with the big guns, the musketeers… Stevenson, last seen in The Book Of Eli but still best known for Rome, is Porthos; Clash Of The Titans’ Evans is Athos and Macfadyen, about to hit the screen in Robin Hood, is Aramis. ** Percy Jackson** star Lerman, meanwhile, will play D’Artagnan, who leaves home to train as a member of the French king’s royal household in the 1600s.

On the boo-hiss villainous side, Christoph Waltz will follow his criminal turn in The Green Hornet with another baddie in the devious Cardinal Richelieu, with Mikkelsen as his main agent, Rochefort.

The Heat Vision Blog also reports that Orlando Bloom is being offered the role of the Duke Of Buckingham, who causes further trouble for our heroes.

Oh, and to no one’s surprise, Anderson has also coaxed his better half, Milla Jovovich to play a part, in this case Milady de Winter, a former flame of Athos and someone Anderson describes as “a 17th century Bond girl”.

Anderson scribbled the script with Andrew Davies, and he’s planning to kick off shooting this September.
