Worst Roommate Ever

It's a double Blumhouse kind of evening, folks. After the Speak No Evil trailer drop earlier this evening, the house that Jason Blum built has now announced that their unscripted Netflix series Worst Roommate Ever is set to get the feature film treatment. And what's more, per THR's reporting, Ghostbusters and Bridesmaids mastermind and sartorial savant Paul Feig is set to direct the movie about a newly single woman unwittingly duped into inviting a serial squatter into her home.

Originally inspired by a 2018 New York Magazine article, Blumhouse's Netflix show has gone beyond the story of nightmare subletter Jamison Bachman — alias Jed Creek — and grown into an anthology series dedicated to telling the unnerving true stories of living situations gone variously awry. For Feig however — whose A Simple Favour sequel has just wrapped filming and whose John Cena and Awkwafina action-comedy Jackpot! is just around the corner — the focus of his Worst Roommate Ever will squarely rest on that chilling original Bachman tale.

“Jason and I have been trying to find the perfect project to collaborate on for years and this story is tailor-made to deliver the scares, thrills, emotion and comedy of dread that both he and I like to entertain audiences with,” said Feig in a statement following the film's announcement. “In other words, I couldn’t be happier to have Jason as the best roommate ever for this film.” It's a sentiment echoed by Blum, who said in his own statement, "Paul is the perfect director for this because his work always manages to strike a balance between the dark and the light, and I’m very excited to see everything he will bring to this story.”

Unfriended: Dark Web scribe Stephen Susco has written the script for this one, which has yet to set a release date or reveal any casting details at this stage. Even so, given how transfixed we've been by Worst Roommate Ever on Netflix, Blum and Feig shacking up to pull off the feature adaptation has us very excited indeed. Rest assured, we will be seated — but crucially not squatting — for this one whenever it eventually hits our screens.
