One of a crop of actors who have frustratingly never secured an Oscar nomination, Paul Dano’s future chances look set to increase as he branches into directing.
Looking to adapt Richard Ford’s 1990 novel, Wildlife, Dano will earn his first writing credit on a script penned with Zoe Kazan (writer of Ruby Sparks). A coming-of-age tale about a teenage boy who watches his parents’ marriage crumble, the book is set in the 1960s – an era Dano recently got very familiar with in Love & Mercy.
Having worked with Paul Thomas Anderson, Ang Lee, Paolo Sorrentino and Denis Villeneuve to name but a few, Dano has a wealth of experience to draw from. Though casting has yet to be announced, it currently looks like he and Kazan will be staying firmly behind the camera for this one.
Dano will next be seen in Joon-ho Bong’s Okja.
