Paul Dano Joins... An Action Comedy?!?

Paul Dano, the indie darling who thus far has avoided Hollywood fare as if it were doused liberally in swine flu, is about to lose his cherry in spectacular fashion, by signing onto Fox's new Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz action comedy. And let us tell you – films don’t come much more commercial than an action comedy starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

The There Will Be Blood and** Little Miss Sunshine** star will play a scientist who comes up with a formula that binds Cruise’s FBI agent and Diaz’ wholesome Midwestern woman together in a chase. However, that’s all we know – we don’t know if they’re being chased, or if they’re doing the chasing. We’re sure all will become clear in time.

Dano, 25, will next be seen, or heard, in Where The Wild Things Are, which may be a Warner Bros. production, but feels – thanks to Spike Jonze – defiantly indie. The Cruise/Diaz flick could introduce this fine young actor to a whole new audience.

James Mangold is directing the currently untitled movie, which starts shooting next month in Boston.
