Steve McQueen has been slowly building his cast for Shame follow-up Twelve Years A Slave. In addition to regular collaborator and BFF Michael Fassbender, he’s scored Chiwetel Ejiofor and Brad Pitt. Now he’s also signed up Paul Dano.
Twelve Years adapts the true tale of Solomon Northrup (Ejiofor), who was approached by two men offering a job in a circus playing the violin. But when he turned up at the accommodation in Washington DC they’d promised him, he was drugged and sold into slavery. After more than a decade suffering under the yoke of various slave owners, Northrup was able to get a message to his wife, who helped secure his freedom.
Fassbender and Pitt’s roles have not yet been revealed, but according to Deadline, Dano will be playing one of the brutal slave owners. McQueen is set to kick off filming next month in New Orleans.
Dano will next be seen in** Ruby Sparks**, which re-teams him with his Little Miss Sunshine directors Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton. He also appears in Rian Johnson’s Looper, which arrives here on September 28.
