They wrote Saws IV-VII, **The Collector **and The Collection, and Piranha 3DD, but Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan appear to be moving into family territory, with the announcement that they're about to come up with a screenplay for Disney. The erstwhile gorehounds will adapt the graphic novel series The Stuff Of Legend, for a live-action adventure{ =nofollow}.

Written by Mike Raicht and Brian Smith, with art by Charles Paul Wilson III, the comic comes off like a much darker Toy Story. Set during the Second World War, it involves a small boy snatched from his bedroom by The Boogeyman and taken to under-realm The Dark. The boy's toys then mount a daring rescue, with the transference to The Dark changing a teddy bear into a fierce grizzly, and so on. Their quest sees them facing down the Boogeyman's army, which is comprised of all the boy's embittered cast-aside old toys.

So while pitching younger, it turns out to be in the Melton and Dunstan's dark ballpark after all. We don't think any of the toys is a white-faced puppet on a tricycle though.

The original director was to be Shawn Christensen, but he's now departed to helm a feature-length expansion of his short film **Curfew and Rock the House{ =nofollow}).

The Stuff Of Legend is still officially listed as "in development", so there are no start or release dates as yet.
