Universal have picked up the rights to Garth Stein's novel The Art of Racing in the Rain, according to Variety, with Patrick Dempsey confirmed to star.
The novel concerns racecar driver Denny Swift, and the lessons he picks up along life's highway. The twist is that those lessons are narrated to us and filtered by his dog, Enzo.
Dempsey (Dr "McDreamy" Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy) is, we've been surprised to learn, a professional racing driver in real life, with his own team and a deal with Mazda. No surprise that he's enthusiastically behind this project then: he'll be co-producing.
And the film is being executive produced by Starbucks Entertainment. Yes, as in coffee. Starbucks are making films now?
