It's been a few years since we've had new work from Korean director Park Chan-Wook, but there is good news on the horizon as he's not only shooting his latest, Decision To Leave but is also gearing up to adapt Viet Thanh Nguyen's novel The Sympathizer for production company A24.

Nguyen himself announced the news via Twitter (see his posts lower down the page), and it certainly sounds like a story that Park could get his creative teeth into.

The book follows the story of a North Vietnamese mole in the South Vietnamese army in the 1970s. He remains in a South Vietnamese community as he is exiled to the United States. He then becomes a cultural advisor on a Platoon-like film about the Vietnam War. But there's more to it than that, with strange elements abounding....

A sequel novel, The Committed, hit shelves in March, so there is plenty of material to keep the series going if the first run is a hit. Beyond A24, there's no word on a channel or streaming service home for the show yet, but you know someone is going to want to be in business with Park.
