As part of its big CinemaCon Presentation this year (which, unsurprisingly, was heavy on Gladiator 2, the new Transformers movie and A Quiet Place: Day One), Paramount let loose a barrage of animated movie news, not the least of which was word that Dave Bautista and Eric Nam are aboard to lend their voices to what is currently titled Aang: The Last Airbender.
Yes, with interest (for good and, to some degree ill) perked back up in the franchise thanks to the Netflix live-action take, Paramount naturally wanted to offer an update about its animated film version. Alongside Bautista and Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten and Roman Zaragoza are in the voice cast, while original animated Airbender series veteran Lauren Montgomery is directing. The film will be in cinemas October 2025.
But that wasn't all – there was also a voice cast update for the next animated Smurfs film, which has Rihanna playing Smurfette (along with writing music and producing) has bolstered its star complement with Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell and John Goodman. That one is clearly further alone, as it has a slot in February 2025.
And while we're talking cast, the original SpongeBob SquarePants voices are returning for another big screen outing from the character. The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants is due on 19 December, 2025.
