While his civil rights march drama Selma remains stuck in development hell, Precious director Lee Daniels has ploughed ahead shooting sultry thriller The Paperboy. And now the first poster for the film has arrived online, and is sitting below for your perusal.
Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron lead the cast in the film, which novelist Pete Dexter has adapted from his own 1995 book.
McConaughey is a reporter investigating the possible wrongful conviction of a man sitting on death row (John Cusack). The newspaperman ropes in his wayward brother (Efron) to help with the job, but the younger man ends up falling for a beautiful woman (Nicole Kidman), who has been courting danger by writing passionate letters to Cusack. Suffice to say, it all becomes tangled up in a twisty mystery of sex, violence and bad decisions.

The poster’s a nice change from the usual floaty head style – patterned after a novel itself, it’s evocative and shoves the cast front and centre. We’re hoping that this could be something better than your run-of-the-mill thriller.
There’s no set release date either here or in the States yet, but we can expect this one sometime in 2012.
