Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster are trying to save the world.
Not really, of course – while we admire and respect them both, we have a feeling that if two actors really did try to save the world, we’d all be dead by breakfast. Instead, they’ll be reserving their heroics for a new movie entitled Pandorum.
The sci-fi thriller will see Quaid and Foster play two spacemen (if their current screen personas are anything to go by, one will be gnarled and stoic; the other flaky and possibly psychotic) who awake aboard their ship, unaware of who they are or what their mission involves. But then they make a discovery that threatens the future of mankind…
Intriguing stuff. We’re guessing that Pandorum refers to the ship on which Quaid and Foster are travelling – and that it might be a reference to Pandora’s Box. Could the ship contain something hideous, unspeakably evil that must not, under any circumstances, be unleashed upon humanity?
And if so, then that means Pandorum is a sci-fi thriller with horror overtones, which puts it right up the street of Paul W.S. Anderson, whose 1997 Event Horizon will always be dear to Empire’s heart.
Anderson is only producing this one, along with his Impact Pictures partner Jeremy Bolt, and Robert Kulzer of Constantin Films, while Travis Molloy supplies the script, but he’s been down this path before – so let’s hope for a film that’s closer to Event Horizon than Alien Vs Predator.
Filming starts in Berlin in August.
