Celebrities: they have dinner parties just like us! But while yer average grub get-together (especially those involving members of the Empire team) often involves pitching mad ideas for possible movies, it’s not like we can wander into a studio executive’s office and have the idea picked up as a film deal. But then, we’re not Glee creator and Eat Pray Love director Ryan Murphy, who happened to gather Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Reese Witherspoon for a nosh session and ended up with One Hit Wonders, a pitch idea that Sony snapped up.
Boasting a story that sounds reminiscent of Tom Hanks’ That Thing You Do, Wonders will follow three singers (played by Paltrow, Diaz and Witherspoon) who each had separate hits in the 1990s before having their careers gurgle down the drain of pop history. So what do they do? Form a super group, of course!
With Beyoncé on board to co-star and Andy Samberg up for both acting duty and providing extra musical assistance via the Lonely Island team, Murphy’s planning to scribble the script with Glee collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, and wants to make the movie once he’s finished working on The Normal Heart. Given that he’s also got a film developing with** Love**’s Julia Roberts attached, plus duties on Glee and American Horror Story, we figure he’ll be too busy to host many dinner parties in the next couple of years...
