Al Pacino’s coming over all theatrical again. After dipping into docu-theatre with 1996’s Shakespeare-influenced Looking For Richard, his current play has sparked an idea to do something similar for Oscar Wilde’s Salome.
He’s currently playing King Herod in the biblical tragi-comedy in LA and plans to make a film about the staging of the show, along with extra fictional elements. “Al is interested in the process that actors go through and what we go through as filmmakers," producer Barry Navidi tells Variety. Roar of the greaspaint, smell of the crowd and all that, eh, Al?
