It was a successful five-week run at the top for Black Panther, but finally a new film sits in the first slot at the US box office charts. And that movie is Pacific Rim Uprising, which took the spot with $28 million.

While the giant robots-vs-giant-monsters action film isn't likely to get near Panther's huge take, it did well overseas, much like the first film. Globally, the new Pacific Rim earned more than $150 million.

And though Black Panther had to give up its throne, Marvel's latest success story continued to reach milestones, passing Avengers Assemble and Star Wars: The Last Jedi in terms of its domestic take, with $630.9 million. Faith-based drama I can Only Imagine stayed in third, taking in $13.8 million. New animated adventure sequel Sherlock Gnomes didn't launch well, landing fourth with $10. 6 million.

The new Tomb Raider fell from second to fifth, making $10.4 million. Sixth was A Wrinkle In Time, with $8 million, while Love, Simon slipped a couple of places to seventh, earning $7.8 million.

The faith-based movie parade continued at eighth, where Paul, Apostle Of Christ landed in its first week. Game Night dropped to ninth, scoring $4.16 million and at 10th we find new romantic drama Midnight Sun, which itself got off to a poor start, making just $4.11 million. Opening just outside the top 10 was Steven Soderbergh's Unsane, which despite kick off its run in more than 2,000 screens, only earned $3.8 million in 11th place.
