Whenever we see Bob Ross’ happy little trees, it makes us just wanna say “Wow!” And whenever we say “Wow!”, it just makes us think of Owen Wilson. So you can only imagine our giddy glee when we saw the first teaser for Brit McAdams’ debut feature Paint, which features none other than the Loki, Cars, and frequent Wes Anderson star channelling his inner Bob. Check it out below:

Written and directed by McAdams, whose screenplay landed on the 2010 Blacklist of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts, the IFC Films comedy stars Wilson as Carl Nargle, Vermont’s No. 1 public television painter. As the official synopsis reads, the painter is “convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke… until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.” Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus, Stephen Root and newcomer Lucy Freyer will be along for what looks – and sounds – like one incredibly quirky ride.

The fact that Wilson looks like Bob Ross, sounds like Bob Ross, and says Bob Rossy things like, “There’s nothing like having the ones you hold dearest nearest when the world turns cold” here is certainly no coincidence. As such, there’s a deliciously meta tone to Paint (Zing!) that promises good-spirited chuckles abound. And even if this doesn’t end up being the next great comic masterpiece, we’ll just remember what our old pal Bob once said: “We don’t mistakes, just happy little accidents.”

Paint is set to release stateside on 7 April 2023, before heading to UK cinemas on 28 April 28th. That’s only three months away! Woooooow!
