With the female leads for new comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me in place thanks to Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, the search has been on for someone to play the supporting titular role. Now Outlander star Sam Heughan is Lionsgate's choice for the part.
Susanna Fogel co-wrote the script with David Iserson and will be directing the movie which finds McKinnon and Kunis as best friends who are always there for each other. When one of the women discovers that the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy, they become entangled in an international conspiracy.
Heughan, who can usually be found striding across historical Scottish moors, is on board to play the ex, a no doubt charming sort who will pop back into their lives. Fogel is gearing up to start shooting this summer, and the film is already set for a US release date of 6 July next year. It'll mark Heughan's first big studio role, though he's worked on smaller movies before. Outlander will be back on screens this September.
