The shortlist for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards Best Visual Effects category has been published, and it contains some good news for Scott Pilgrim Vs The World fans, as well as expected mentions for the likes of Inception and perennial effects contender Harry Potter.
The seven films on the shortlist also include Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland,** Tron Legacy** and Clint Eastwood's Hereafter. These seven will be whittled down to five final nominations, which are announced on January 25 with the ceremony taking place on February 27.
The seven films contain the usual big-budget blockbusters - if there's anyone out there who didn't expect to see **Inception **and Tron Legacy, we feel you might need a reality check - but also a less obvious nod to, say, Eastwood's story of the afterlife, which has received less than glowing reviews (albeit no one has been picking on the effects in their complaints). It's really good to see that someone out there loves Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, which used a huge number of effects, both subtle and in your face.
Still, can any of these films beat Inception? Share your thoughts below!
