It's all go at tonight's Oscars and so far three of the Best Picture nominated films have won awards. Gladiator picked up its first award of the evening for Costume Design and it was also the first award for a Brit - English designer Janty Yates thanked director Ridley Scott for his 'vision'. The second big award of the night was Best Supporting Actor which was scooped by Benicio Del Toro for his role in Traffic. Del Toro - who stopped to shake hands with co-stars Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, was clearly delighted and a popular winner, eliciting whoops of approval from the audience when he took to the stage. Another English winner was cinematographer Jack Cardiff who was presented with an honorary Oscar by Dustin Hoffman. Cardiff, whose work includes The Red Shoes and Sons and Lovers, is the first cinematographer to be so honoured by the Academy and received the first standing ovation of the evening. 'This has to be a dream,' said Cardiff. 'An honour like this has an awesome air about it...I give my heartfelt thanks to the Academy.'
