Though it features two rising actors in Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund, and is the latest directorial effort from Departed writer William Monahan, Mojave hasn’t exactly enjoyed the greatest critical luck following festival screenings. It’s quietly heading to Stateside screens soon, and has a new trailer to prove it.
Mojave finds Hedlund as Thomas, a troubled artist sick of his privileged Los Angeles live who heads into the desert in search of some definition for his life. But when his jeep crashes and he’s left to wander, what he finds is chameleon-like drifter Jack (Isaac), who immediately comes across as suspicious. Upon his return to LA, Thomas learns that Jack has followed him and intends to destroy his seemingly perfect world.
Little does Jack realise that Thomas is hiding more than just some self pitying issues: he’s a man with a violent temper and finds it within himself to fight back. Thus begins a clash between the two foes, with Thomas’ family and friends caught in between.
Mojave will be out in US cinemas early next year and hits VOD today. There’s no word yet on a UK release.
