Originally launching on the PlayStation in 1998, video game action title Metal Gear Solid has since spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs, but despite being optioned as a movie in 2007, has been stuck in development at Sony for the years since then. It got a boost in 2014 when Jordan Vogt-Roberts began talks to direct (before he headed off to make Kong: Skull Island) and there's even better news now, as Oscar Isaac is set to star.

Vogt-Roberts is still on to call the shots, and he'll be overseeing a script currently by Derek Connolly. Isaac will play Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit.

Isaac has plenty of jobs on his To Do list, including the Marvel/Disney+ Moon Knight series and HBO's Scenes From A Marriage miniseries. Then there's also Brian K. Vaughan adaptation The Great Machine that he's on to produce and star in. And before any of that, Isaac will be seen next year in Denis Villeneuve's Dune.
