Over the summer, a Twitter user asked a question that went modestly viral. "Where," asked @AtomicWick, "is my Addams Family remake starring Eva Green and Oscar Isaac and directed by Guillermo Del Toro." This morning she at least has a third of her wish – sort of. Oscar Isaac has indeed signed up to be at least the voice of Gomez Addams in Conrad Vernon's new animated take on the morbid comedy classic.
The new take on the eldritch family was announced back in 2013, with Corpse Bride writer Pamela Pettler hired to work on the script. It's since been through the keyboard of Matt Lieberman, and Sausage Party's Vernon is overseeing animation in Vancouver.
Quite what the story will be hasn't been revealed, but it'll focus as usual on characters including besotted couple Gomez and Morticia, their children, Wednesday and Pugsley, wackier family members Uncle Fester and Grandmama, their imposing butler Lurch, and disembodied hand Thing. Maybe Cousin It will turn up too.
There's no release date yet. You can ,of course, currently see Isaac jumping in X-Wings and blowing things up in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
