Orlando Bloom Is The Good Doctor

Orlando Bloom has locked down his next lead role: playing a frustrated, ambitious doctor in The Good Doctor.

Lance Daly is directing, and is close to locking down a swathe of castmembers to join him, including Michael Pena, Troy Garity, Courtney Ford, Taraji P. Henson, Rob Morrow and the great JK Simmons.

Written by former Veronica Mars script-scribbler John Enbom, the film is described by The Hollywood Reporter as a Hitchcockian thriller, in which the driven doc tampers with an 18-year-old patient's medication so that she'll have to stay at the hospital with him and give him the esteem he's desperate for. And given Enbom's credits, it sounds like it'll be sharp and feature a healthy streak of dark humour.

It'll all kick off shooting in LA this week, so we're going to go ahead and assume the rest of the cast is pretty much in place already, otherwise Orlando's going to be doing a lot of embarrassed emoting to stand-ins and sock puppets.
