The sad news aboutthe death of Marvel maestro and all-round comicbook champion Stan Lee broke on Monday, and tributes have been flooding in ever since. And now six people who owe big chunks of their recent cinematic success to characters he created or had a hand in popularising have added another: Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner took out an advert in The Hollywood Reporter to mark his passing.
As posted to twitter by THR editorial director Matthew Belloni, the ad acknowledges the impact Lee's creative contribution has had and the wit and humanity of the man himself. It's a sweet gesture from people who have long been the main faces of the MCU, even as Lee has popped up himself to interact with them via his many cameos.
Lee had already filmed material for the next Avengers outing, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and, likely Captain Marvel. Beyond that, the MCU and its associated connected worlds may have to do without his fun little appearances.
