Valentine’s Day has just slipped off into the distance for another year, and whether you spent the day romancing your sweetheart or shaking an angry fist at the cruel brutality of a world in which you are single, chances are your thoughts turned to the story of two people who meet on the night they graduate from university and then periodically bump into each other through their lives. No? Sigh… Fine. But the poster for romantic drama One Day has arrived anyway.
David Nicholls adapted his own bestseller into the script for this one, which follows two people – working class girl Emma (Anne Hathaway) and moneyed charmer Dexter (Jim Sturgess) – from their initial meeting through the ups and downs of their lives across one day, July 15, each year. They find their fair share of love, laughter, heartbreak, pain and suffering, success and failure and wonder if maybe they were meant for each other.
An Education’s Lone Scherfig is behind the camera, and we’re definitely looking forward to seeing how the book has been adapted for the screen. Plus, the presence of two very able leads doesn’t hurt.
