Last year, Quentin Tarantino returned with his ninth film (tenth really, counting both Kill Bill movies separately) Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – another QT trip into times gone by, this time travelling back to a sun-kissed 1969. It’s a loving look at the era of hippies, the last gasp of Golden Age Hollywood, and the era in which Tarantino himself grew up – and not only did it pull in punters at the box office, but it garnered considerable Oscar buzz too. That’s likely the reason why Sony Pictures has just made available a 30-minute featurette titled ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – A Love Letter To Making Movies’, which you can now watch right here.

The featurette is part making-of, part exploration of the movie’s themes and ideas, with tons of cast interviews and on-set looks at the characters, the story, and the filmmaking craft. From Rick Dalton’s inner torment, to the way the film depicts Sharon Tate, to the recreations of the Spahn Ranch and 1969 LA, it covers plenty of ground – an entertaining watch for anyone who loved the film.

Tarantino, meanwhile, is waiting to see how Once Upon A Time fares at the Academy Awards on 9 February – having received 10 nominations, including the coveted Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay categories, and Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Could his love-letter to Hollywood resonate with the none-more-Hollywood awards voters? We’ll find out if it can beat the likes of 1917, Joker, and The Irishman to the top prizes in a few short weeks.
