Omar Sy

Stephen Gaghan's new action-thriller, Candy Store, has picked up another lead in the shape of French actor and star of Untouchable, Omar Sy. This one is likely to be a lot less heart-warming though, with Sy shaping up to play the villain of the piece, a gangland big noise - a 'Cold War consigliere' no less - with a pimpish past.

Sy joins Jason Clarke, who signed up back in February, in a pairing of two actors who couldn't be hotter if they actually had smoke coming out. The story, co-written by Gaghan and Shannon Burke and set in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, pitches Clarke as an ex-covert operative who discovers that the organisation he's dedicated himself to fighting has inveigled its way onto his home turf. Hmm. Clearly these people haven't seen Zero Dark Thirty.

The Gaghan co-produced flick will be distributed by Lionsgate in the US and Good Universe overseas. Look out for more on it around Cannes time next month.
