Olivia Wilde has become an in-demand director thanks to Booksmart. She has a few projects on the go, and now Sony has come calling, as Deadline reports that she has a deal to direct a film set in the company's Spider-Man-linked Marvel universe.
At this stage, with no official announcement (though Wilde confirmed it on Twitter, as seen in her post below), the details are scarce, though the trade site has heard that it would be Spider-Woman, which has an existing script from Gary Spinelli that will get an overhaul before Wilde is ready to direct it.
According to Deadline, Sony and producer Amy Pascal tried to lock in Wilde for a while, but the actor/director didn't make her decision immediately because her To Do list is starting to fill up.
Sony hasn't had the best luck building up its list of female-centric Spider-films, as Silver & Black, which had Gina Prince-Bythewood attached to direct, vanished into limbo. SJ Clarkson is on board to make a Madame Webb movie.
Whatever form this new one takes, it'll have to wait for Wilde to at least finish work on psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling, which kicks off filming this autumn.
