Warner Bros. really is looking to hold on to Gary Oldman’s services. Having worked with him on The Book Of Eli, Red Riding Hood, several Harry Potters and Christopher Nolan’s Bat-trilogy, the studio is already trying to make a deal for him to star in **Akira. Now comes word that he may also play Merlin in Arthur & Lancelot.
The Change-Up’s David Dobkin has written and will direct the Arthurian adventure, which, he’s said, will re-invent the mythology a little and make the characters more “grounded.” Hhhm…. Even Merlin? Well, if the BBC can give it a crack…
Joel Kinnaman, who appeared in the US TV remake of The Killing and also crops up in Safe House and The Darkest Hour, is currently locked in to play Lancelot and Dobkin is looking for an Arthur to star alongside him.
Oldman would be a great choice as Merlin, giving some gravitas against the younglings. He’s also proven he’s a dab hand at magic, so he has that working for him…
