When listing the screenwriters you might expect to join a biopic of influential gangsta rap crew NWA, we’re willing to bet that World Trade Centre scribe Andrea Berloff didn’t crop up. But she’s got the job.

According to The Hollywood Reporter{ =nofollow}, Berloff will pen **Straight Outta Compton, **the story of the group, whose members included Ice Cube, Dr Dre, Easy E, MC Ren and DJ Yella.

Niggas With Attitude rose up from LA’s Compton district in the ‘80s, and made it big with 1988’s Straight Outta Compton, which sold 9 million records (you kids might remember those as some of the funny round things people used for music before iPods and downloads happened along).

With their success came rifts, with Cube in particular leaving over royalty issues and waging rap wars with the remaining members. But since Easy E died, the surviving members of the group have been easing back onto good terms.

Cube is producing the film, which does make us wonder whether it’ll take his side more (hope not), but there’s no word on a director or cast yet.
