Most audiences probably know The Nutty Professor from Eddie Murphy's days remaking the character in the 1990s. But someone else wants a crack at the concept originated by Jerry Lewis back in 1963.

That someone is James Vanderbilt, the Zodiac and Amazing Spider-Man writer/producer who has a production company called Project X, which now has the rights to the original story. The Nutty Professor follows a nerdy scientist who in order to improve is love life, drinks a potion that temporarily turns him into the handsome, but obnoxious, Buddy Love.

Vanderbilt and his production partners don't have a studio home for the potential film yet, but they'll put a script and other elements together before taking it around Hollywood.

The team is already working on the next iteration of the Scream franchise, which has some of the original cast returning, and directors in place.
