The Nutcracker 3D Trailer Arrives Online

Imagine a world full of suspense and adventure, where magic comes to life and toys are real. Imagine a fantasy where… Sorry, it’s not actually the next Narnia film, or even another Toy Story. The Nutcracker 3D is just the latest take on Tchaikovsky’s ballet, which itself was an adaptation of TA Hoffman’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. And now the trailer is out over at Apple to take us to a place filled with wonder and… Stop us if you’ve heard it already.

Still, director Andrei Konchalovsky has certainly pulled out all the stops to craft an epic tale here, nabbing the likes of John Turturro, Ell Fanning and Nathan Lane (playing a new character, Uncle Albert, who sadly isn’t the one from Only Fools and Horses, but actually seems to be Einstein, at least going by the hair and ‘tache) for the story of a young girl whose latest Christmas gift sends her off on an adventure.

Mary’s (Fanning) 1920s Christmas in Vienna was shaping up to be a lost cause until her crazy Uncle gave her a nutcracker in the form of a toy soldier. Because, you see, this is no ordinary toy/tool; he’s actually from a kingdom where toys live. But his world is under attack from the evil Rat King (Turturro) and he’ll need Mary’s help to save it…

With songs from Tim Rice and no doubt lots of 3D stuff flying around, the Nutcracker doesn’t have a UK release date just yet, but we guess it’ll be here in time for Christmas. Meanwhile, head off on a journey to… you know the rest.
