Cast your mind back to June 28 of this year - a sunnier and more innocent time - when we brought you the news that Michael Bay was producing and might direct a new sci-fi story called **I Am Number Four. Well, now he's getting serious about it, hiring Smallville and Spider-Man 2 writers Al Gough and Miles Millar to adapt the story.

The book, by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, still isn't quite published, but tells the story of a group of aliens who flee the destruction of their home planet and hide out on Earth disguised as teenagers. And if that all sounds a bit Animorphs to you, you should really read better books.

There's no word yet on a start date for this, but given the high turnover of both these writers and this director/producer, expect it to come together quickly.
