With Bronson under his belt, it really felt like Tom Hardy had arrived. And he continued his winning ways by snatching a role in Christopher Nolan’s Inception and proceeding to steal scenes from the rest of the cast. Now? We’re a little worried, since he’s just decided to rifle through Sam Worthington’s leftovers and take one of the leads in McG’s mix of action and romantic comedy, **This Means War.
The film has been percolating in the Hollywood development pot for donkey’s years now, stretching back to at least 2001 when it was a vehicle for Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence.
More recently, it had been rumoured as a possible project for Seth Rogen, then Bradley Cooper and Chris Pine became attached, with Reese Witherspoon as the female lead. Followed quickly by Cooper dropping out, apparently over issues with the script’s quality. Worthington ummed and erred over an offer to reunite with his **Terminator Salvation **director, but ultimately appears to have passed.
Now it would seem that Hardy is the man to play one of a pair spies, lifelong pals, who fall out over their feelings for one woman (Witherspoon). But instead of a rumble after a few pints down the pub, or a long introspective chat about their feelings, the pair decides to wage black ops conflict on each other.
With a full set of leads (for now), McG actually stands a chance to getting this thing made at last. But even if he does, does it sound like something you'd watch? And does the casting of Hardy help that case?
