Illusionist heist caper** Now You See Me** pulled of something of a magic trick of its own this summer, becoming a surprise sleeper hit that just kept on bringing in the cash. With the bean counters now counting worldwide takings greater even than its impressive US receipts, plans are being made to shoot a sequel{ =nofollow}.

Lionsgate boss Jon Feltheimer was feeling bullish talking to market analysts on Friday, and announced that the company was planning to kick off shooting a second film in 2014. That’s not too surprising given that the first was produced for a thrifty $75 million and is on track for $275 million around the globe.

Now You See Me had Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco as a disparate group of tricksters who are brought together to plan a series of daring heists. Their activity lands them on the FBI’s radar and dogged agent Mark Ruffalo strives to take them down.

We won’t talk about how it all plays out here for fear of spoilers for those who might still be contemplating seeing it, but the big finish does point to some possible directions. Whether the cast will return is another matter, but all the negotiations will have to wait until a script is in place, and no writer has been assigned yet. Finally, with a 2014 shoot pencilled, is Lionsgate truly planning to have the film ready for 2015? We’re not sure there are any release dates left...
