Last May, it looked like Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell would go head to head in parental comedy** Daddy’s Home. But while that version, which was to see Tropic Thunder writer Etan Coen make his directorial debut, has since fallen apart, Paramount is loathe to give up on the idea. The studio’s new plan? To reunite Ferrell with another former co-star, The Other Guys’ Mark Wahlberg.
**Daddy’s Home **finds Ferrell as a mild-mannered radio executive who is always striving to be the best stepdad he can be to his wife’s two kids. But then their freeloading, uncouth biological pop (Wahlberg) shows up, forcing our hero to compete for the children’s attention.
It could be fun to see Wahlberg and Ferrell butt heads instead of having to work together as they did (mostly) in the cop comedy, and Paramount clearly still wants it to happen. Horrible Bosses 2 duo Sean Anders and John Morris are in talks to direct, and may end up working on the script which has seen contributions from Brian Burns, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Cohen himself.
Wahlberg will next be seen dodging explosions, giant robots and falling debris in Transformers: Age Of Extinctio****n, which roars into cinemas on July 10. Ferrell will be seen in Welcome To Me and is at work on prison comedy Get Hard with Kevin Hart.
