Just when we thought director John Hillcoat had exhausted the ranks of great people to put into his new heist thriller Triple Nine, he finds yet another name. Hillcoat now has The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus aboard for the film, which will shoot this summer.
Matt Cook wrote the script, which finds a crew of dirty cops blackmailed by the Russian mob into pulling off a near-impossible heist. In order to distract attention away from their complicated crime, they look to create an “officer down” situation, setting up an unsuspecting rookie (Casey Affleck) to die. He, however, has other ideas, and goes on the attack.
Reedus, who has just finished his fourth season playing fan-favourite Daryl Dixon on the zombie series, is joining a cast already swelled by the likes of Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot and Teresa Palmer. With financing in place and a shoot finally scheduled, Hillcoat appears to have finally cracked this one.
As for Reedus, he’s also been busy filming post-apocalyptic drama Air alongside Djimon Hounsou and Sandrine Holt.
