Given how popular he’s become fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world with The Walking Dead, you can see why Norman Reedus might transfer some of that appeal to the big screen. He’s set a deal to star with Djimon Hounsou to star in **Air{
As the title might suggest, the script – co-written, and to be directed, by video game designer Christian Cantamessa – is set in an underground cryogenic facility in the wake of a nuclear fallout that has rendered Earth’s atmosphere a toxic, unbreathable soup. The occupants of the cryotubes are specially picked personnel tasked with re-establishing society once the air has been cleaned, and Reedus and Hounsou are the caretakers making sure that nothing goes wrong. But the years of isolation have worn on them, and they struggle to maintain their sanity (and their lives) in the one place on the planet humans can still survive.
Also involved in the project is someone Reedus knows quite well: Robert Kirkman, creator of the Walking Dead comics and a writer-producer on the show. He’s helping to the produce the movie with his company, Skybound Entertainment. With Chris Pasetto on co-writing duties, the film, originally called Wake Cycle, has been in development since 2001, though it has suffered through turnaround at least once. Now, however, the future looks bright, with Sony in talks to take it on.
Reedus continues as one of the fan favourite characters on The Walking Dead, and was last seen on the big screen in Pawn Shop Chronicles. Hounsou will be heard in How To Train Your Dragon 2 (out July 4), and seen in Guardians Of The Galaxy (August 1) and Fast & Furious 7, which drives in on April 10 next year.
