Ever since the mysterious first poster dropped for Jordan Peele’s Nope, film fans have been scrambling for a sense of what the mind behind Get Out and Us has in store for us this time. One trailer later, we’re still none the wiser – there seems to be a “bad miracle” at play, and there are ranchers, references back to Hollywood history, and something seriously weird happening in the sky. Are we talking monsters? Or aliens? Or something else entirely?
We don’t have answers. What we do have is a brand new look at Daniel Kaluuya in the film, teaming up once again with his Get Out director. “I wrote NOPE with Daniel in mind for the role – a humble man destined for an epic and otherworldly confrontation,” Peele tells Empire. “Daniel’s craft is on a different level, but it’s his warmth that grounds audiences even during points of absolute madness. You may be watching a nightmare, but when he’s on screen, at least you’ve got your brother with you, and that’s all you need.” It’ll be fascinating to see the pair’s second collaboration – and hopefully get answers on why Kaluuya is seen here wearing an orange hoodie with a logo for The Scorpion King on it.
Peele’s next film also stars Steven Yeun – in a cowboy hat, no less, going by the trailer – and Keke Palmer, and will likely remain shrouded in mystery right up until its release. See you in the cinema for all the big reveals on 22 July.
